Fifth Grade

  • In 5th grade, teamwork is the key to success. As a 5th grade team, we encourage, share, respect, solve, and work together to achieve the goals we set throughout the year.

Our language arts program encompasses reading, writing and word study. Students build fluency and comprehension by reading high-interest, complex informational and literary texts. In class, students are taught strategies to become effective writers through the use of writing workshops. Students learn to write captivating stories and essays as they develop lifelong skills to become confident and effective writers.

Math follows the sequence provided by our enVision series. In math class, students apply learned skills to many new concepts ranging from basic functions, including fractions and decimals through algebraic expressions.

Science follows the Foss program. Within this program we touch upon three different topics including Life Science, Earth Science and Physical Science. In class, students are able to participate in science experiments to further their understanding of each topic.

In Social Studies, students learn about early American history through the use of the TeachTCI series. They explore the geography of the US, as well as, the exploration, cooperation and conflicts that took place during the birth of our country.

Technology is woven into all aspects of our curriculum. Students are equipped with one-to-one Chromebooks that allow them to incorporate technology into their learning throughout the school day.
